Bottle Face Shape

I have been playing around in Maya testing out how i'm going to animate this characters face using the physiology of the bottle itself. Seeing as it is plastic this can be believable in a real world environment.


Another idea that was discussed was using the brand picture on the label as the face of the bottle where it can move around freely on the label. That could also be taken as far as that being the only thing that's freely moving and it is manipulating the bottle.

Then there was the idea of the water inside the bottle being made use of to cause people to slip or other bottles to slide away.

Limbs I don't think I will use and I will just manipulate the shape of the bottle for  motion and engaging the environment. I may have something in between limbs and manipulating the form of the bottle itself in the end.

Brainstorming

After doing some brainstorming with some of my friends I came up with a few ideas that could all be developed further once I have chosen one of them. The ideas are as follows;

1) Coat hanger. It is has a fear of mustard coloured clothing and will do anything it can to keep away from it. It will twist and turn to avoid this and even drop the garment if it is made to hold it. Ultimately it will tip paint on the clothing to change its colour forever. Location: Wardrobe.

2) Drink Bottle. Believes it is about to become the victim of the next bottle chewer that walks into the store. Hides behind other bottles makes self look dirty and tears label etc. to make self look undesirable. In the end spots an old man with no teeth and "spruces" up to win his attention. Location: Fridge at dairy.

3) Mug. Afraid of heights as he doesn't want to break. Starts out happy on the coffee table but is moved to the mantle piece by someone which unnerves him greatly. Has to make his way back to the coffee table and overcome this fear while doing so. Location: Lounge/Sitting room.

Precedent Designer

I have decided to use the works of Tapio Wirkkala as the precedent for my character for the Pre-production assignment. I am really drawn to the shapes of his works and love the smooth surfaces mixed with the sharp lines.




Though I am still not sure which inanimate object I will use yet though the pipe looks like it could be cool. Or from some of Tapio's other work an ashtray, chair or a cup could work well also.

Sound Effects and Backing Track

For the sounds I will use in my video I have first found a good slow motion sound effect for when the bullet is at the impact zones and everything slows down.


I also reversed this for going back to normal speed.

I have been trawling through a lot of sounds for a good backing track that will fit with my animation. Here are some of them.



Also got some impact sound effects that I will slow down to fit.

Terrain with texture

Here is the cliff terrain with the texture that I will be using. It took a while to get a texture that looked good and in the end I once again found a tutorial online that helped greatly.
